WRITTEN BY JEREMY BISPO – UNABRIDGED / AS YOU LIKE IT FOUNDER AND FOR·MA·TIVE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF.
My love affair with Detroit Techno runs deep. It’s woven into everything I do – especially As You Like It (AYLI). Many assume AYLI’s name comes from Shakespeare, but the real origin traces back to one of my musical heroes: Claude Young. I bought his mixtape on cassette at a rave in Los Angeles in 1999, and that moment stayed with me. I was honored to finally meet him in 2011, and even more so to work with him in 2021 for the AYLI 11-year anniversary. I’m sharing this to introduce the roots of my 2026 project: Unabridged: Detroit Incoming. The full announcement drops January 6 at 1PM (PST).
